This design was inspired by murals in the Convento Dominico de la Natividad in Tepoztlan, near Mexico City. Dating back to the 16th century, shortly after the Spanish conquest, the convent’s breathtaking murals in sanguine and charcoal seem to contain the whole genealogy of Hispanic ornament, with a Moorish geometry filtered through Spanish Catholicism and rendered in the pigments of the New World.
Jennifer Shorto began her career as a collector and connoisseur, buying and selling antique textiles and collaborating with artisans to reproduce her favorite pieces. Studying History of Art at L’Ecole du Louvre ignited her passion for artisanship, and set the foundation of her investigative skills to source exceptional materials and work with the very best.
