A length of hand-poured seeded glass sits upon a pair of lacquered mahogany brackets on the Black Seeded Glass Wall Shelf by Courtney Applebaum. The glass is crafted by trained artisans who layer thick streams of molten glass into substantial iron molds, giving the shelf its distinctive, weighty form. Once fired, the black glass takes on the appearance of pooled ink—deep, rich, and fluid. The obsidian-toned lacquer brackets cradle the substantial mass of the glass, anchoring it in place. Despite the solid materials and saturated tones, the way the shelf seems to float lends it an unexpected lightness, balancing strength with subtle elegance.
Los Angeles-based Interior Designer Courtney Applebaum was initially drawn to architecture and interior design as she saw these worlds as arenas for self-expression and beauty. Established in 2011, her studio is dedicated to creating spaces that brim with purpose and individuality through a mix of design periods, furniture styles and unexpected materials. Curated eclecticism that naturally evokes a minimalist mood is the hallmark of each project.
